Liraglutide Injections
PRESCRIPTIVE, MEDICAL WEIGHT LOSS
What is Liraglutide? It is a subcutaneous injection that works for weight loss by regulating your hunger and calorie intake. As a glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, it lowers hunger stimulation in several areas of the brain, which reduces your food intake. It also helps your stomach digest food more slowly, which causes feelings of fullnessThe chemical name is saxenda.
How does it work? It is a unique medication that mimics the action of the natural GLP-1 hormone, activating hypothalamic pathways to reduce appetite.
Appetite Suppressant
Delays GI motility (helps you feel fuller for longer)
Regulates blood sugar better (great for patients with PCOS, type II diabetes, or who are pre-diabetic)
What is Pramlintide? It is a synthetic analogue of the endogenous neuroendocrine hormone amylin. It enhances fullness (satiety) and stabilizes blood sugar by slowing glucagon release.
Potential S/E: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation (can be impacted by nutrition)
NOT a candidate for Liraglutide? Personal OR family history of thyroid cancer (medullary thyroid carcinoma) or personal OR family history of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome Type 2. Women who are pregnant and/or breastfeeding.
Medication Caution: you should be cautious if taking insulin or oral diabetic medications as the combination can potentially cause low blood sugar.
Since the liraglutide injection does not help increase energy or boost metabolism, we recommend pairing it with either a vitamin b-12 injection or one of our lipotropic injections (lipo-lean, vita-chrom, or the mega-burn).
